  1. The legacy of daktari! You were a true doctor who carried your work non discriminatory, diligently without fail. You treated our entire family as children, my late mom and my father were your champions, even when we grew up as young women and moved abroad, we still came back your high services to the world, introducing our European friends whom you saved their lives again and again when they fell ill with malaria.

The Unforgettable Dr. Okanga, God bless your generation to come. The world is missing a gentle angel.R.I.P.

  3. It has taken me time to be able to write anything that would correctly describe Daktari Okanga, one thing I know though is that the Lord has given him rest from the worldly troubles and his usual smile and encouragement to many will live in my heart forever being a recipient of his wonderful councelling and health care from the eighties. He treated my late mother free for five years. May the Lord Jesus give rest and comfort to your soul.

  12. My name is Cec Cook. My husband Jim and I met Dr. Okanga and his wonderful wife Florence at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Canada. We immediately became fast friends, and have attempted on several occasions to contact them to no avail. From that brief encounter we became drawn to each other. We wish that we could have closer bonds with Joseph and Florence, because their kindness and goodness shone through them. Our most sincere condolences, Florence, to you and your family. Farewell, good Joseph, you are now with God who needed you more than we do. God go with all of you.

  13. I shall miss the doctor very much and very sad to hear about his passing. I remember as a child many years ago, at his clinic – he would urge and scold me to take my medication until I completed the full dose and not to stop halfway as i usually did as soon as i felt a little better. He would ask how school was going and always had a friendly pat. He always made laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God grant you the strength at this time. We thank God for the time we were blessed to have him.

talked and discussed on a friday, told me of his retirements home plan; and now on a tuesday morning a house boy meets me to open the gate at JBs residence to confrim to me that BABA is gone.

Reality mixed with confusion came when i saw the body of my friend lying a cold room as if he was only a sleep covered with a bed sheet

May the lord rest his soul in peace, this is aman with a golden heart, a Dr with a difference, A Dr whose words were of healing effect even before any administration of medication

May the almighty give strengh to the family and may he give courage to the Brother whom he has left behind with responsibility to lead the family

  21. Rest in peace DOC. Fondly remember one day a few years ago when we were in church at the Mombasa Memorial Cathedral. You rushed and picked a child who had collapsed in one of the parent’s arms , rushed with him out of the church as the service was on and after performing first aid for him in your car, came back to church and decided to carry the baby as the service went on. So humble you were Doc. My condolences to your big family and your brother and my family friend, Mr. Owino Okanga

Personally, it was my interaction as a teenager with Daktari that inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. I will always be indebted to him.
May The Great Healer grant Daktari peace, and may His blessings continue as he begins the family reunion with his loved ones who have gone on before.

  34. on 2nd October you came for thanks giving, joking that you had dressed like “Mike Sonko” , because of the shades you had after the successful eye surgery and the same time you were thanking God as you celebrated your birthday. A week down the line you hosted a wonderful dinner. Am in lack of words on how brutal death can be; but one thing for sure, I cant wait to join you in asking death, “where is your sting, where are your powers you wailed over us”.

    Woooih……….. This is so unfortunate.

Dr. J .B. Okanga was a very brilliant person and I can assert that death has just robed the medical fraternity a very visionary companion.

From my personal encounter, I knew Dr.J. Okanga as a very humbled person and always willing to inspire those choosing to help the society in different ways.

Believe me, Dr. Okanga would spare his precious time to listen to issues that many [I included] would have perceived them to be inferior putting into consideration his Medico-Academic Stature, but provided they stood to benefit the larger society and by specificity the under privileged population. This really touched me a lot!

He was a Clinical Physician with a true passion for his work and was always keen to detail when handling issues.
Somehow I am quite confident that, the Wide Gap left behind by Dr. Okanga’s death may not get a fitting replacement in the near future despite his efforts of having inspired many youthful Doctors over the years in medical practice.

Probably Dr. Okanga may not walk under the sun soon following his death but his Beautiful Legacy that he has build over years of dedicated medical practice will live on for generations to come.

The unexpected demise of Dr.Okanga comes as big blow to Kenya Diabetes Association [later renamed “DIABETES KENYA”], an organization that he formerly served as the National Chairman after the founder, the late Dr. Eric Mngola.

And in Summary, I would say; Dr. J. B. Okanga was “A PEOPLES’ PERSON” and his wonderful presence will badly be missed by many who knew him.
Sure, a time comes when we must learn to accept what we can not change, but many a times these lessons[s] come as a Bitter Pill to swallow.

And may JEHOVAH GOD grant his immediate family members and friends the necessary strength to overcome their grief during this difficult moment.

Lastly I pray that; the Almighty God does remember you [Dr. Okanga] during His coming day of resurrection.

    Yours in pain,

    Alfred.

  46. My prayers go the Okanga’s family. May God strengthen at such a time. 1 Corinthians 15: 51 -57 says, “51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Revd. Daniel Eunyalata Emoru
