Controversial Mombasa Cleric, Sheikh Aboud Rogo is dead.
Sheikh Rogo was killed after his matatu van he was travelling in was sprayed by bullets along the Mombasa Malindi highway near Pirates beach club, in Bamburi Mombasa.
The cleric’s death is already generating heat in Mombasa, with Muslim scholars who spoke to Mombasa411.org on condition of anonymity vowing to call for demonstrations in the streets of the coastal town this afternoon.
Security is already beefed up in Mombasa, with Rogo’s death being the latest in a string of mysterious killings of Muslim scholars and clerics in the recent past.
The Sheikh was Arrested in 2002 after claims that he perticipated in paradise bombings which killed about a dozen of disbelievers. After 2 years in prison, he was released.
Aboud-Rogo Mohammed, aka Albadiri, until his death was a Muslim cleric in Mombasa since 1997. Aboud-Rogo Mohammed is said to have introduced terror suspect Mohammed Kubwa Mohammed to Fazul Abdullah Mohammed and two others, who were later indicted by a U.S. court for the 08/07/1998 attack on the U.S. Embassy building in Nairobi.
Aboud-Rogo Mohammed was released on bail after his arrest in 2003 and acquitted, on 06/29/2005, from all charges.
Aboud-Rogo Mohammed was re-arrested at Kanamai in Kilifi by Anti terrorism police and charged, on Wednesday 12/22/2010, with engaging in an organised criminal activity by being a member of al-Shabab in connection with the Nairobi Blast, on Monday 12/20/2010.
On Monday 01/30/2012 Aboud-Rogo Mohammed was rearrested in Mombasa and charged with holding firearms, ammunition, hand grenades and detonators in circumstances that indicate he was armed with intent to commit murder .Aboud-Rogo Mohammed, who appeared before a Mombasa court, also faced four counts of being in possession of firearms without certificates and another charge of being in possession of explosives.
He is said to have committed the offences, on Sunday 01/29/2012, at Kanamai village in Kilifi County.

My grand father was the son of a African slave. His name was Amar and he was taken out of his family at the age of five. He obviously did not know his roots as he was bought at his childhood. Fortunately they did not change his name but called him Amar – the name his mom gave to him on his birth. It was through this name that lead me to his origins when I found out he actually came from a Muslim Community in West Africa. Then I continued my research into origins of slavery. To my surprise, I found out over 90% of Africans embraced Islam very early. They indeed accepted Mohamed right from the beginning and remained devout Muslims until the Europeans came and colonized Africa. Today, Muslims in Africa are only 55% Muslim whereas more than 35% belong to Christianity and probably do not know the fact that most of them believed in Islam before they were converted into Christianity. The White man is unbelievably cruel as he did abuse the humanity in any possible way. He did even deny Africans the right of believing in their own faith. You all belonged to the same faith – namely Islam – but it was the work of the White devil that divided you into opposing cults imposed by himself upon you. It is sad to see you Kenyans believing in the White man’s religion and identifying yourself as Christians when you should all belonged to Islam – your origin.
Rogo was simply killed because of his faith. The White man does not like you to be free and believe in your own faith. Rogo’s bigest sin was freedom of expression. No one should applaud this crime because it is simply wrong.
Africa accepted Islam because of the dignity it brought to them and the honour of humanity. It was Mohamed (peace of Allah be upon him) who preached the fact that in Islam all men are equal and what matters is none but the heart of the believer. Blacks, Whites and Coloured worshiped under the same roof – unlike Christianity which segregates Black people into own corner.

Aboud’s killers are criminals. If Rogo did any wrong as claimed then he should have been apprehended and tried in a court of law, nobody has the right to end another’s life. Issues of Islam or Christianity are neither here nor there, no religion preaches violence or murder. Destroying churches and killing christians is not the solution, the christians killed had nothing to do with the Sheikh’s death and two wrongs will never make a right. Remember killing an innocent person makes you a criminal in the eyes of the law and before God. MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS HAVE COEXIXTED PEACEFULLY FOR YEARS, THEY HAVE EVEN INTERMARRIED. This is not a killing… it is a murder. No one should take the law into his/her own hands. They accused him for an illegal activity and they could not substantiate anything. Whoever planned the assasination of Aboud Rogo’s death must have been quite careless, insensitive amd myopic. He should have know that with the religious tension arising from Al Shabab attacks of holy places and the same attributed to muslims by the christian folks an action like this will certainly create a religious conflict that is difficult for the government to contain.With the coming elections the government will handle the issue with kid grove inorder not to upset the muslim community. Who then will bear the blunt of the consequential religious backlash? Its the common man. You saw the victims of this backlash in todays news. The poor chaps were so ordinary and so innocent and had to suffer for an apparent no reason at all. The Mombasa Republican have a new assenal to promote their cause and will use this as an opportunity to create mayheh at the coast region. Quite a pity to see how is common for people to commit treason and hide behind spiritual/religious groupings.
I know very few people who vehemently threatened the lives of Kenyan public with Jihad or political insurrection. Wycliffe Matakwei was one. Salome Matakwei said people hated her still even six months later.
Rogo was another Matakwei, and his army is less sympathetic. Alshabaab is not sympathetic to Kenya, and Kenya is not sympathetic to Alshabaab. Anyone with half a brain knows this for a fact.
Holding the Koran on one hand and disseminating homicidal sentiments with the other? You will not fool anyone. We quietly accepted Matakwei’s end. Similarly we will quietly accept losing Rogo.
