Taarab fans across East Africa have been dealt a blow after the death of 13 members of the Five Stars Modern Taarab Band in Tanzania.
The deadly accident occured at Mikumi, near Morogoro.
Among the dead include lead Singers Issa Kijoti and Husna Mapunda (Pictured below), Hamisa Omary, the wife of another artiste, Mussa Mipango. Solo guitarist Shebe Juma, bass guitarist Omary Hashim, and a band assistant identified only as Omary aka Tall.
The loss of the 13 members comes barely two years after the launch of the Taarab band, on the 24th July 2009.

Tanzania’s President Jakaya Kikwete has already issued a condolence message following this tragedy.

i witnessed that accident. I was traveling from Nakonde to Dar es salaam via tunduma. Like we`ve always said the overspeeding of these drivers is costing alot of tanzanian lives those beutiful ladies ladies you see on top were cut in pieces, it wasn`t a pretty sight at all. maybe its time you started educating your drivers.
