R.I.P.: Radio Maisha Traffic Manager Dies In Freak Accident

The Late John Mutunga, In Happier Times with his Wife. She survived with injuries.

Death, surely has no mercy. Death they say is such a cruel, cold, merciless killer…..coming when never expected.

Wednesday 11th January was seeming a normal day as John Mutunga (a friend, colleague and doting husband) headed to work.

His wife was alongside him.

As he walked by the roadside in Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate, a speeding matatu overtaking another, came from behind the pair and seemingly the driver lost control of the vehicle and it ploughed into the pair, killing John on the spot.

His injured wife was rushed to Nairobi’s Mater Hospital for observation, and the sad bit is, she is Seven Months pregnant. Sources tell Mombasa411 that doctors are working round the clock to save the pregnancy, the couples’ expected first born.

John Mutunga formerly worked at Mombasa’s Baraka FM as a traffic manager before taking his last job at Radio Maisha.

The news of the death has shocked Mutunga’s former colleagues at Radio Maisha and Baraka FM.

Esther Ingolo a presenter at Radio Maisha, termed the death as saddening. She was lost for words as she spoke to yours truly.

Ayub Mwangi, the editor at Baraka FM, termed Mutunga’s death as a great loss, terming him ‘a great proffessional’.

In Facebook, esp. Baraka FM Old family group, the shock was plain to see.

The body was taken to Chiromo Funeral Home. More details will be made available soon.

R.I.P. Mutunga.

Write your condolences below.

  1. I worked with Mutunga at Fish FM in Eldoret. He was a great friend, a diligent work and a true man of God. May the good Lord comfort his wife and take care of their baby. Also, let’s decongest our roads – let Kenyans take a stand against 14-seater matatus.

Our hearts go to his young wife who has lost her dearest friend and partner. We’re praying for them. Here’s a nother good reason to ban 14-seater matatus. Kenyans let’s take a stand, let’s save lives.

  30. ….That life is this fragile is a reality that is making the perfect sense now. In John’s demise, let us reflect upon our lives, our relationships with fellow human beings and our God. More often than not we spent a lot of time building walls of grudges, hatred and planting unnecessary seeds of discord around us and colleagues, forgetting that we have no guarantee of the next second of our lives. If it could happen to John, an accomplished, bright, down-to-earth professional, friend, brother and colleague, who are we? Rest in peace John. I mourn you.

    1. I am shocked and moved beyond words! It is very sad and disturbing. Our very own John Mutunga. What a blow……and, anyone who was at Maseno University, will remember John very well, with his ever reassuring smile.

My heart goes out to particularly Marion who has been worst hit by this sudden demise. May God restore her strength. May she be safe. May the baby be safe in Jesus name! We declare the Lords goodness , mercy, and grace!

At times, like now , we want to ask God many questions. However, he reminds me of one thing that even when storms like this rise above our wildest imagination, we will soar with him.

Lord, may you give us peace. May you make us still. May you wipe our tears and take the pain in our hearts away. Unrest our souls prince of peace!

John Mutunga, a brother and a friend. We thank God that he gave us the opportunity to know you. R. I. P bro.

Today i mourn, I mourn because of a friend, a brother, a colleague and a role model and as i mourn, i also warn drivers who think by breaking the law they have won yet in reality its a family they have left toned. Watch out and be careful as you drive because life is not a loan that can be paid back. Once taken…. its gone. Am so sad.
